No LinkedIn: Missing chance to be connected with millions of professional

When I heard about LinkedIn the idea fascinated me. Get together with millions of professionals, discuss intelligent topic, hire and get hired etc.  Just afterwards the routine changed. Spending hours a day to create good profile, finding match professional and start connecting with them, joining groups ,giving own views and asking others views.

LinkedIn can be real boon if we know how to use it. Especially for fresher’s it can be portal for referral too. I started asking my school friends, college friends and friends of profession if they are in LinkedIn, some said yes and some said no. Many raised the counter question what is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a social networking site for professionals and companies. It helps you too find the right match i.e., right job for your qualification and qualities. Apart from it, it takes you to the large global market, make you know about various new happenings, researches, innovation and discoveries. There are thousands of HR professionals who might hunt you, if they found you are needed for their companies and also there are companies who will ask you to disclose your LinkedIn profile in their career portals too.

When I was searching the ways to make my LinkedIn profile fruitful I searched a lot. Read the various article published in LinkedIn by various professionals, followed LinkedIn pulse, followed the ideas of various authors etc. Here are the some tips that I gathered, which can be useful for you too.

 1.      Just don’t create LinkedIn when you need it
This is the greatest mistake I did but you shouldn't do the same mistake. Just start creating LinkedIn connections now. If you don’t need it now, it can be great help in future.  Just take part in group and start being noticed. Try to get the top contributor badge in few groups of your interest and profession. Surround yourself with diligent people; who are far more superior and experienced than you. It will help you to broaden your mind thinking.

     2.    Choose hero picture
Be sure, you are looking the best. The photo should be in your professional attire as far as possible. Second thing about photo is don’t put selfie type photo like in Facebook. You mustn't use certain photos like showing peace sign, unnatural expression of your mouth, face and eyes, group photos etc. Your photo must be as latest as it could be.

     3.     Re-visit your goals
At the most basic level: LinkedIn is all about marketing yourself.  Who are you isn't as important as what you want to accomplish, so think about your goals and convert your goals into keywords.

     4.     Strip out the clutter
This might be the most important point to consider while making your LinkedIn Profile marketable.  Just cut the things which are totally unnecessary. Today what you have achieved in grade 3 or 4 is irrelevant. So don’t bother to disclose it. Secondly, you needn't disclose all the job experience you have. For example: you have worked in hotel as a waiter for financing your studies, now you are applying for the post of manager or anything you shouldn't disclose it. But if you are applying in hotel industries, please disclose your experience as a waiter too.

     5.     Don’t forget to care and share
The easiest way to frequently update and customize your profile is to share and care.  The article, blog post, videos you share comes in your activity stream and it will certainly help you too reach the desired position. Second thing is to care; care what your connections like, create those type but professional discussion, comment in the same way. Don’t forget millions of professional might be watching you.

     6.     Recommend and ask to be recommended
Careful guys, it’s not easy task. You have to think thousands time before you recommend about others. Take care what you are writing and it should be matched with the profile of the person to whom you are recommending. Recommending others will help you to increase your profile views as you can be seen in others profile too.

Asking recommendation is a great challenge. Don’t ask recommendation from those whom you don’t know very well. No one can recommend about you just viewing your profile.

     7.     Don’t be generic
This point is what you need to understand the most.

“I’d like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn”

How much busy might you be, but for the gods shake don’t use this same auto-generated message. Let the person whom you are trying to be connected know how much precious s/he is for you. Think for some time, view their profile and create own message. This might boost your connection.

Additionally it is advised not to mention words like highly professional, familiar with, team player, problem solver in your description. Just describe your qualities like what makes you highly professional and so on. Those are words used by lazy person.

Happy reading
